"Ya do remember, don't ya?"
"Remember...what?"
Sapphire was sick of all this pretending. How could Ruby not remember saving her from that wild Salamence? She was determined to get an answer from him.
"C'mon, Ruby! Ya don't have to hide it from me!"
Ruby was silent for a moment, then he said, "Okay, okay! I remember it!!"
Sapphire was shocked at this sudden change of attitude.
"But why couldn't ya tell me this before?!"
Ruby was silent once again, and then spoke.
"It's because I didn't want to be known for my former love of battling. I thought that if I 'forgot' about it, then everyone else would, too."
Sapphire suddenly felt guilty for pressing Ruby for answers in public all those times. He just didn't want to be known as an overly powerful trainer...
"Sapphire, can this be a secret just between us?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, sure."

Later, that night...

Ruby and Sapphire's family were eating dinner together, when Ruby's mother asked, "Do either of you remember being attacked by that Salamence when you were younger?"
Ruby and Sapphire each gave him a confused look.
"What Salamence?"
